Sofia Carmina Coppola (/ˈkoʊpələ/ KOH-pə-lə, italienisch: [soˈfiːa ˈkɔppola]; * 14. Mai 1971) ist eine US-amerikanische Filmemacherin und ehemalige Schauspielerin. Sie gewann einen Oscar, zwei Golden Globes, einen Goldenen Löwen und einen Preis der Filmfestspiele von Cannes. Außerdem war sie für drei BAFTA Awards sowie einen Primetime Emmy Award nominiert. Ihre Eltern sind die Filmemacher Eleanor und Francis Ford Coppola. Bereits als Baby gab sie ihr Schauspieldebüt in dem gefeierten Krimidrama ihres Vaters, „Der Pate“ (1972). Später wirkte Coppola in mehreren Musikvideos mit und hatte eine Nebenrolle in der Fantasy-Komödie „Peggy Sue hat geheiratet“ (1986). Anschließend verkörperte sie Mary Corleone, die Tochter von Michael Corleone, in der Fortsetzung „Der Pate III“ (1990). Mit ihrem Spielfilmdebüt als Regisseurin, dem Coming-of-Age-Drama „The Virgin Suicides“ (1999), wechselte Coppola ins Filmgeschäft. Es war ihre erste Zusammenarbeit mit der Schauspielerin Kirsten Dunst. Ihre Filme thematisieren häufig Einsamkeit, Reichtum, Privilegien, Isolation, Jugend, Weiblichkeit und Adoleszenz in Amerika. Für die Tragikomödie „Lost in Translation“ (2003) erhielt Coppola den Oscar für das beste Originaldrehbuch und wurde als dritte Frau für den Oscar als beste Regisseurin nominiert. Seitdem führte sie Regie bei dem Historiendrama „Marie Antoinette“ (2006), dem Familiendrama „Somewhere“ (2010), der satirischen Krimikomödie „The Bling Ring“ (2013), dem Southern-Gothic-Thriller „Die Verführten“ (2017), der Komödie „On the Rocks“ (2020) und dem biografischen Drama „Priscilla“ (2023). 2015 veröffentlichte Coppola das Netflix-Weihnachtsspecial „A Very Murray Christmas“, eine musikalische Komödie, für die sie eine Nominierung für den Primetime Emmy Award in der Kategorie „Bester Fernsehfilm“ erhielt.
