経歴

米ニューヨーク・クイーンズ出身。本名はロナルド・ローケン。生後14カ月で子どもモデルとしてショウビズ界でのキャリアが始まり、10歳になる頃にはTVやラジオ番組に頻繁に出演する。ホフストラ大学在学中にブロードウェイの舞台を踏み、大学を退学して俳優業に専念。当初はロニー・ウォーケンの名義で活動していたが、65年に芸名をクリストファー・ウォーケンに改名した。66年に「冬のライオン」に出演して以降、ミュージカルだけでなくストレートプレイでも活躍。69年に映画デビューして以降、「グリニッチ・ビレッジの青春」（76）や「アニー・ホール」（77）で注目を浴び、マイケル・チミノ監督の「ディア・ハンター」（78）でアカデミー助演男優賞を受賞した。続いてチミノ監督の問題作「天国の門」（80）にも出演している。その後は、「デッドゾーン」（83）で主演を務め、シリーズ第14弾「007 美しき獲物たち」（85）では悪役ゾリンを好演、02年の「キャッチ・ミー・イフ・ユー・キャン」で再びオスカー候補になった。「トゥルー・ロマンス」（93）、「ウェディング・クラッシャー」（05）、「ヘアスプレー」（07）など数多くの映画でバイプレイヤーとして活躍する一方で、舞台作品にも出演を続け、「サタデーナイト・ライブ」といったTV番組でもユーモアのセンスを発揮している。
