経歴
米ニューヨーク出身で、父は元「ニューヨーク・タイムズ」編集主幹のマックス・フランケル。ハーバード大学卒業後、1990年からTVドラマのエピソード監督を手がけはじめ、95年に「マイアミ・ラプソディー」で長編映画監督デビューを果たす。 「Dear Diary」（96）でアカデミー短編映画賞を受賞。TVシリーズ「アントラージュ★オレたちのハリウッド」第1話（04）の監督を務めてエミー賞監督賞（コメディシリーズ部門）を受賞し、世界的大ヒット作「プラダを着た悪魔」（06）のメガホンをとった。 映画「マーリー 世界一おバカな犬が教えてくれたこと」（08）、「ビッグ・ボーイズ しあわせの鳥を探して」（11）、「31年目の夫婦げんか」（12）などの監督作で、ハートフルコメディの名手として知られる。
