アイルランドのダブリン大学で演技を学び、2000年に短編映画「Inion an Fhiaclora（原題）」でスクリーンデビュー。出演したTVシリーズ「ダウントン・アビー」（10～15）が世界中で大ヒットし、同作は第63回エミー賞で作品賞を受賞した。映画出演作に、「イミテーション・ゲーム エニグマと天才数学者の秘密」（14）などがある。「ボヘミアン・ラプソディ」（18）では、フレディ・マーキュリーのマネージャー、ポール・プレンター役を演じた。
